Barracuda Blast: Gator Open and KCI, fundraising efforts, meet results

Hello Barracuda Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We are so grateful for the continued support, energy, and commitment our families bring to the team each week.

We have a few important reminders, upcoming deadlines, and team updates to share below. This is long email but full of very important information. Please read through it in its entirety.

Meet Declarations: KCI vs. Gator Open

Both the Ken Caryl Invite (KCI) and the Gator Open take place this week. It is very important that swimmers are not declared for both meets.

KCI declarations are due tonight by 8:00 PM. *use KCI 2026 to declare*
Gator Open declarations are due Tuesday by 8:00 PM.

If your swimmer has achieved a qualifying time in any event for KCI, they may only swim at KCI and are not eligible to swim in the Gator Open.

To determine eligibility, log into SwimTopia and declare your swimmer as "Attending" for KCI. You will then be able to view the event selections:

  • If an event is selectable, your swimmer has met the qualifying time.
  • If an event is grayed out and marked "Not Eligible," your swimmer has not met the qualifying time for that event.

If your swimmer is eligible for even one KCI event, they must attend KCI and should not declare for the Gator Open.

If all events are marked "Not Eligible," your swimmer should declare for the Gator Open.

Please verify your swimmer's eligibility and complete your declarations before the deadlines.

Additionally, Coach Maddie may be reaching to individual families to inquire about relay participation for KCI-this will not affect eligibility for either meet.

Gator Open Schedule and Volunteer Needs

Thursday @ 7am - 9:30am

Coach Maddie will send out more information after the entries have been made. This is a 'virtual' meet where swimmers are competing against teams across the league except teams are all swimming at their home pools. The meet moves very quickly and will be wrapped up by 9:30 am. Swimmers attending KCI will have the morning off.

We still need volunteers to fill several key positions for this meet:

  • Computer/Stats
  • Runner
  • Stroke & Turn Judges and Timers.

As a reminder, we are halfway through the season, and some families have not yet signed up to volunteer or have only completed one volunteer point. Our meets and events rely entirely on parent volunteers, so please take a moment to review opportunities and help where you can.

Ken Caryl Invitational Schedule

KCI will take place this Friday evening and Saturday.

Friday 7 PM (warm-ups 6 PM): 200 free and 400 free events ONLY

Saturday 8:30 AM (warm-ups 7AM): upper division swimmers 13 & up ONLY

Saturday 12:00 (warm-ups 11 AM): lower division swimmers 12 & under ONLY

Coach's Corner

Coach Maddie would like to remind our 7:00 a.m. practice swimmers to please ARRIVE ON TIME and ready to enter the water when practice begins. We've had slow starts recently, and every minute of practice counts. Arriving a few minutes early with goggles, cap, and equipment ready helps us maximize training time and keeps practice running smoothly.

Fundraising Corner

Car Wash Updates

Thank you to everyone who supported our Barracuda Car Wash on Friday! Together we raised over $550 for the team. A special thank you to Katie Hall, Katie Brinkley, and Nickie Tripland for organizing and providing supplies to create a successful event.

Barracudathon

Our Second Annual Barracud-a-thon kicks off on July 8th! Last year, our team raised an incredible $6,864, which helped fund equipment, our new timing system, and the banquet.

This year, our goal is $5,000 which is earmarked for the banquet and a digital display board to help swimmers and families see times more easily and reduce interruptions during meets. Any remaining funds will go towards team operating costs and equipment replacements.

Barracudathon Team Page

Swimmers can start reaching out now to family, friends, neighbors, and local businesses to secure sponsors for their laps. Every donation helps us continue providing an outstanding experience for our swimmers both in and out of the pool.

Parent Survey

Looking ahead, we will also be sending out a mid-season parent survey this week to get your feedback on the season and what upgrades or improvements you would like to see the team consider in the future. Please keep an eye out for the survey—we appreciate your input!

Board Volunteer Opportunities

As we look ahead to the remainder of this season and begin planning for next year, we are still seeking volunteers to fill the role of computer lead and volunteer coordinator. Thank you to the families who have offered to fill communications and league rep.

  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Computer Lead

If you are interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, please email [email protected]. Current board members will provide training and support to help make the transition smooth.

Meet Results: Platte Canyon 706 - Grant Ranch 596
