Mini Barracudas
Mission
The Mini Barracudas program is a subset of the Grant Ranch Swim Team designed for swimmers who are not quite ready to compete in meets but are ready to learn the techniques of competitive swimming. The Mini Barracudas program is great preparation for competitive swimming, with the goal to have the swimmers able to swim 25m freestyle and backstroke by the end of the swim season. They also have their very own Mini Meet every season!
Qualifications
The Mini Barracudas Program is designed for swimmers who are well adjusted to the water, ready to learn the fundamental techniques of freestyle and backstroke, and able to take direction from the coaches. Mini’s are expected to have already learned the basic swim skills of kicking, floating and progressive stroke.
To join the Mini Barracudas swimmers must:
- be able to fully and comfortably submerge their face and body underwater
- be able to transition between floating on their stomach and/or back to kicking
- be comfortable swimming away from the wall to a coach who is about halfway across the pool
Practice
The swimmers will receive personalized attention and swim in a supportive and enthusiastic environment! Mini Barracudas will have 30 minute practices twice a week. There will be no afternoon make-up practice available to the Mini Barracudas. Mini swimmers are invited and encouraged to attend all social activities and meets to watch and cheer!!
Swimmers who cannot swim the length of the pool without stopping will be referred to the Mini Barracudas Program. Some swimmers may swim with the Mini Barracudas for just a short time while they develop their swimming ability, while others may remain a Mini for the entire season.
Duration
The session will start on June 2 and run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-9:30 am. The mini's will conclude their season with the opportunity to participate in a "mini meet" during the intermission of our regular season meets.
Fees
Registration fees for Mini Barracudas is $80. We do accept non-resident swimmers for an additional $20 fee.
