Sunday Barracuda Update

A huge thank you to the parents and coaches for orchestrating a great first swim meet yesterday! For all of the first time swim parents, home meets are a bit more hectic than away meets. We all appreciate the hours preparing for and conducting the meet! We have one more dual home meet, and two “virtual” meets. Thanks for all of the feedback during the meet yesterday; we were able to make some real time adjustments (heating), and we will make a few more adjustments for the next meet (turning off the sprinklers and adding caution tape to the starting end of the pool to further help the congestion in the heating area.)

Congratulations to all of the swimmers! Everyone did great! We had 60 swimmers and about 50% of our team had never participated in a swim meet before! It takes guts and bravery to stand up on those blocks and jump in and we saw a lot of that yesterday. In addition, 17 swimmers qualified in 39 events for the Ken Caryl Invitational, and 7 swimmers qualified in 20 events for the State meet!

You have heard us mention the Ken Caryl Invitational swim meet and the State Swim Meet, both of these meets are qualifying meets. Swimmers must earn at least one qualifying time to swim at these two particular meets. These times can be found under the “Docs” tab on our SwimTopia website. The Gator Open will be a virtual meet on Thursday, June 24th at our pool. This meet is for anyone who has not qualified for the Ken Caryl Invitational. If you have an older swimmer (10+) who has qualified for KCI, we would encourage you to sign them up to help run the Gator Open meet by being timers and heating coordinators.

Reminder: Team picture night/Tie Dye TOMORROW, June 7, 6-8pm; please attend for the group photo even if you choose not to purchase any photos. If you are unable to attend, please let us know and we will get your child’s shirt done for them. Bring your photo form and payment with you. Wear your Barracudas team suit or whatever suit you have. Also, bring a old t-shirt to wear while tie dying.

  • Here is the science behind the tie dying process; call it Summer School for the kiddos! We will be using the Spangler Science dye kit. Check out the video for a quick tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAqBErjVRLE
  • We are also in need of 4 adults to help run the Tie Dye night. Please email Melissa Colley if you are interested. These will count towards the 5 required volunteer shifts.

Governors Ranch will be utilizing the SwimTopia app to manage the meet this coming Saturday, the 12th. Please download the app if you haven’t. **Additional detailed info regarding SwimTopia app to follow in another e-mail.

Meet entries are due at 8 p.m. on Wednesday night! Remember to select your swimmers’ 3 events & relay preference.

If you haven’t signed up for all your volunteer shifts please do so HERE.

We are looking forward to seeing your kiddos tomorrow morning at practice and tomorrow evening for pictures and tie dying. (There will be no evening practice tomorrow, just photos and tie dying fun.)

Enjoy your Sunday evening!
