Weekly Barracuda Update

It was great to see so many enthusiastic swimmers at the pool this afternoon! Looks like it's going to be a fun season with a lot of familiar faces and many new ones.

We have quite a bit to cover this evening, so please read all the way to the end of this e-mail.

  • Practices this week: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: Group 1: 4-4:45 pm; Group 2: 4:45-5:30 pm
  • Regular season practices begin Tuesday, June 1: Group 1: 7-8 am; Group 2: 8-9 am.
  • Mock Swim Meet this Saturday, May 29th:  We know this is Memorial Day weekend; please go to the events page and declare attendance for your child(ren). This will be available Wednesday evening under "Calendar - Events/Meets" Tab. You will also be able to choose events for your swimmers. You must be signed in to access this area of the website.
  • Ironman Award: As you choose events with/for your kiddos throughout the season, keep in mind that all swimmers are eligible for the Ironman award. It is earned by legally swimming every individual event in their age category during the season. For 8 and under swimmers this includes: 25 free, 25 back, 25 breast, 25 fly, 50 free, 100 free, and 100 IM (individual medley). These do not have to be fast, they just have to be legal (no DQ’s)! I would highly suggest families review this video to understand legal strokes. The 8 and under swimmers only have to worry about turns for the 50 & 100 free and the 100 IM.
  • Meet declarations: If you know your swimmer(s) will miss a meet, please go into Swimtopia and mark them as "not attending" that week's meet. This will help the coaches build the meet roster and create relay teams.
  • Payment reminder: If you have not been to the Village Center to pay for your swimmers and you have not talked to Jolene, please do so by May 28 to avoid a late fee.
  • Volunteer assignments are open: If you have not done so already, please go to the "Calendar - Events/Meets" tab in Swimtopia to sign up for your 5 volunteer sessions. You must be signed in to access this area of the website. If you are unable to fill those commitments, please let our volunteer coordinator, Melissa Colley, or Jolene know.

The coaches are looking forward to seeing your kiddos at the pool for practices after school this week (Tue-Thurs), if your schedules allow. Happy almost Summer!
